Dr. Armbrust is a clinical psychologist specializing in psycho-educational testing and psychotherapy.  She provides a full range of psychological services for pre-school children up to adults, including: play therapy, parent training, school consultations, family therapy, and psychotherapy for children, adolescents and adults.

Dr. Armbrust has spent her professional life working with children and families to overcome various obstacles to their personal or academic accomplishments. She has worked extensively with children and adolescents who are experiencing difficult life situations or struggling with emotional, behavioral and/or academic problems.

Dr. Armbrust received both her Masters and Doctorate in Psychology from New York University, and her undergraduate degree from Johns Hopkins University. She has worked with children, adolescents and families in various hospital, school and outpatient clinic settings.

Porsha is a staff counselor at our Southside location in Jacksonville. She received her Masters of Science degree from the University of Hawaii in Rehabilitation Counseling, as well as a baccalaureate degree in Psychology from the University of North Florida. Porsha is currently working towards her Certification in Rehabilitation Counseling (CRC) and Hypnotherapy; she is also accruing post-master's hours as a registered mental health counselor intern.

Porsha’s clinical interests include: depression, anxiety, career-counseling, disability, minority stress, holistic healing, meditation, and hypnosis. In addition to her clinical work at Florida Counseling and Evaluation Services, she currently serves on Active Duty in the Florida Air National Guard as a Senior Non-Commissioned Officer. She has a vast knowledge of the military, and military-centric issues.

Kay Cooper-Thomas is a Florida-Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation with a Therapeutic emphasis from the University of Florida and her Masters of Arts degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of South Florida.

Kay’s background includes working with children and adolescents, as well as providing counseling services to adults with depression, anxiety, trauma, and behavioral issues for over 25 years. She provides individual, group, and family counseling.

Kay is dedicated to providing nonjudgmental and compassionate care that encourages growth. Her focus is on helping others utilize their own individual personal knowledge and strengths and milestone to promote healing. She focuses on obtaining positive results by helping individuals manage life stressors and focusing on short and long term goals.

Dr. Gauler is a Florida-licensed mental health counselor (LMHC) working with adolescents (ages 16 +) and adults with a variety of presenting problems. He offers life-coaching, short-term counseling, psychotherapy, and educational and other behavioral health assessments, including disability and pre-surgical psychosocial evaluations for bariatric, pain (spinal cord stimulator), and transplant patients. Dr. Gauler also provides critical incident response (i.e., CISM/CIR) and consultation services.

His theoretical orientation to counseling and clinical services is rooted in the philosophy of a humanistic-existential approach to human functioning. Employing a non-sexist approach, he uses the tenets of individual responsibility to choice and decision-making and applies them within a cognitive-behavioral (CBT) perspective to counseling and clinical work. He considers himself a generalist with specialty training in cognitive rehabilitation, vocational/career counseling, as well as psycho-educational testing and other evaluations.

Dr. Gauler has received a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in psychology with a minor in Spanish, a Master of Science (MS) degree in rehabilitation counseling with a focus on psychiatric disabilities from the University of North Florida, and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Master of Arts (MA) degrees in Clinical Psychology from Fielding Graduate University in Santa Barbara, California.

In addition to practicing as a mental health therapist, Dr. Gauler holds national credentials as certified rehabilitation counselor (CRC) and certified vocational evaluation specialist (CVE); he also is an approved clinical supervisor (ACS). He has over 15 years of experience in the field of clinical and counseling psychology working with diverse populations, including gender and sexual minorities (i.e., LGBTQ) and individuals with congenital and acquired disabilities.

Doug Gorospe is a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) in the State of Florida who has over 25 years of experience both in the field of behavioral health and substance abuse. He has worked as a counselor in the both inpatient and outpatient facilities since 1993. He has received his Bachelor of Science in Psychology and his Masters in Social Work from Florida State University. Doug specializes in working with adolescents, adults, and couples struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, anger management, physical /sexual abuse, dual diagnosis, substance abuse issues, life transitions, grief issues, work problems and stress management.

Doug believes in providing a supportive, nonjudgmental environment to guide the client’s healing process.  He utilizes a variety of approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Brief Solution-Focused Therapy, Rational Emotive Behavior (REBT), grief therapy, Eye Movement and Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), mindfulness techniques and traditional psychodynamic therapy.

Clanailya is a Florida-Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) who has earned a Masters of Education degree with Emphasis in Community Counseling and a Bachelors of Health Science degree. She has provided clinical services across various hospital and mental health centers throughout the community since 2008. 

Clanailya believes in a second chance. Life-changing events can have an effect on us all. She endeavors to work with each individual to find the best solutions for their unique circumstances. This means highlighting and understanding their strengths, resilience, and experiences to discover and utilize sustainable tools necessary for overcoming barriers/challenges.

Clanailya’s approach to therapy centers the individual and their goals while also considering the impact of their cultural background, family dynamics, and experiences within the context of societal systems. Throughout the course of therapy, a variety of therapeutic approaches may be applied based on individual interests and needs at current time. Her intervention approaches include – but need not be limited to – the following: Crisis prevention, anger management, psychotherapy, REBT, CBT, use of psycho-educational materials and additional evidence-based practices, art/play therapy with children, trauma-informed care and harm reduction approaches to substance use treatment.

Shirley, a Florida-licensed mental health counselor (LMHC), is a staff counselor who received her Master's of Arts in Counseling from Webster University. Shirley’s life experience and calm demeanor allow her clients to be at ease as they share their challenges and concerns. She uses her sense of humor and active listening to ensure she and her clients are on the same page. She listens to her clients issues without judgment or bias.

Shirley believes in a holistic approach to counseling and her clinical interests include: trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, and women’s issues.

Shirley also holds a doctoral degree in Christian psychology from Jacksonville Theological Seminary, which allows her to incorporate aspects of faith and spirituality into her counseling sessions upon request.

Her counseling approach is rooted in Rational Emotional Behavior Therapy (REBT), assisting patients to overcome negative thought processes which often result in emotional distress. She believes in working with patients to find solutions that work for them in a straight-forward, nonjudgmental atmosphere.

Melissa works with adolescents (ages 16+) and adults. Her areas of clinical interest include: anxiety, depression, trauma, career-counseling, grief, substance-abuse, as well as disability, LGBTQ+ and women’s issues.

In addition to his doctorate in psychology, Dr. Meyer has previously earned a post-graduate degree in psychology, a master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling with an emphasis in psychiatric disabilities from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, as well as a baccalaureate degree (BHA) in healthcare administration from the University of North Florida.

Dr. Meyer is a certified mindfulness practitioner.

Dr. Meyer's clinical interests include: substance abuse, dual-diagnoses, depression, anxiety, grief, career counseling, disability, and minority stress to include LGBTQ issues. In addition to his clinical work at Florida Counseling and Evaluation Services, he recently has retired from the United States Air Force as a senior non-commissioned officer. Fred is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). He moved to Jacksonville in 2016. While living in New York, he worked for many years in the New York City Department of Education, as well as providing psychotherapy at a mental health clinic, and in his private practice. He enjoys working with individuals, couples, families, and groups using various approaches to help his clients improve their mental health and living circumstances. He aims to provide a comfortable and trusting environment, where the individual feels supported, respected, and understood. He does this through having a nonjudgmental attitude, calm demeanor, sense of humor, and using active listening. He helps the client formulate a treatment plan that targets the specific problem areas that they want to work on to engage growth and healing.

Fred received his MSW degree from Adelphi University School of Social Work. He has been practicing since 1980.
